Following the incredible success of last year’s Borough Legends game against the mighty Liverpool Legends, this year the Borough Legends played against The Irish Masters on Saturday 4th June in Stradbrook, Deansgrange, Co Dublin (Home of Cabinteely FC) followed by a Gala Dinner at Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel.
The teams played for the victory of The Newstalk Wellness Cup, but perhaps the even greater prize is that the Borough Legends and SOS have a shared ambition to challenge the stigma in relation to mental health and suicide, and both strive to build a society where we can all embrace our mental health. This was a life-changing game.
The Borough Legends is not just an ordinary football club – it is a dream born in the community, developed by the community and focused on the community. It is a community movement that unites men, women and children who are working together to educate and inform people on mental health strategies, so that we can all become part of the solution and learn to support each other.
Suicide prevention and mental health awareness are close to the heart of the Borough Legends, because time and time again they have seen their community devastated by the impact of the loss of one of their own through suicide.
So, to everyone who supported this event, who came along to cheer on the teams, who bought match programmes or donated raffle prizes, and of course our wonderful footballers who gave so much time and and effort (not to mention their fancy footwork!) to make this event such a success – THANK YOU!
