What is the work of SOS?
SOS endeavours to challenge the stigma attached to mental illness and provide a range of educational and therapeutic programmes that increase understanding of suicide and play an active role in its prevention in Ireland.

What is the Eden Programme?
It is a unique and innovative programme which works with individuals who have attempted suicide or have suicidal thoughts. The programme provides a supportive group environment over a 6 month period (via weekly groups) 3 hours a day for 1 day per week.
Is the Eden Programme Effective?
Every person is different. We work with the group and also with the individual participants to help them improve their well-being by supporting them while they become aware of their own mental health states.

Is it Confidential?
The privacy of the participants is respected at all times. However, confidentiality may have to be breached in the following circumstances:  Where the facilitators perceive an individual to be at risk of harming themselves;  Where the facilitators perceive there to be a danger to any other person resulting from any action taken by a member of the group. (any such procedures will be discussed with the individual concerned)

Who is entitled to this Service?
Depression, anxiety and suicide affects all walks of life, there is no class discrimination. Anyone from the age of 18 years upwards can apply. Entry to the programme is by means of an initial assessment.

How can you get on the Eden Program?
You can refer yourself or be refered by your doctor or other professionals. An application form must be completed, followed by an interview assessment.

Where are the programmes held?
Currently 2 programmes are planned and will take place in Shine Blessington Street and Mental health Ireland in Dun Laoghaire

When does the next programme begin?
The programme will begin as soon as the places are filled with suitable candidates

What day does the programme run?
The course in Dublin City centre will run on Wednesday and the course in Dun Laoghaire will run on a Thursday.

What is the start time?
Both start at 10am and finish at 1pm.

What is the duration?
24 weeks.

What is the Wellness Workshop and what is the duration?
The wellness workshop is a one day workshop that teaches people how to look after and maintain a good mental health.  It runs from 10am till 5pm.

How many people can attend the workshop?
The wellness workshop can take up to 35 people.

What is the minimum age to attend a workshop?
Attendees need to be over the age of 18.

Do SOS run group workshops for organisations?
Yes, please contact the SOS team and this can be arranged.
