The Global Village Show on NewsTalk 106-108FM is hosted by Dil Wickremasinghe and takes place every Saturday night. It aims to spark social change through thought-provoking discussion with those affected by the issues. “We are well used to tackling thorny issues as it is our belief that media needs to play a more active role in challenging prejudice in Ireland”
Mental health is a topic very close to Dil’s heart. She has publicly spoken about her own mental health journey and how, as a victim of abuse, she has been able to move from surviving to living life thanks to the services of One In Four.
Dil has personally felt that there is still a huge gap between a person experiencing mental health difficulties and actually picking up the phone and asking for help because of stigma and lack of awareness. Mental health is frequently discussed on Global Village frequently but Dil thought it would be helpful if they had a regular slot. So on Saturday 16th July Caroline McGuigan, our CEO, was invited to join Dil live in-studio to kick off the regular mental health feature on Global Village.

Caroline is a qualified psychotherapist and founder & CEO of Suicide or Survive. Caroline has experience of personally attempting suicide and the limited services available. She spent 8 years as a user of the psychiatric services, leaving her with an in-depth knowledge of the medical model, how and why a person is diagnosed and the treatment they may receive in Ireland.
Caroline McGuigan joins Dil live in-studio at 8pm to offer advice to our listeners on how to look after their mental health.
