Liverpool Legends – Charity Match for SOS

Liverpool Legends

Liverpool Legends –V- Borough Legends                                                                                                              Tony Ryan Cup

Some of Liverpool’s greatest ever stars recently played in a once off charity match against Borough Legends, which was a wonderful fundraising event for SOS.

The great Liverpool FC anthem “You’ll never walk alone” has a huge significance for the former players of Ballybrack F.C. as it speaks of unity and camaraderie and team spirit. Sadly in December of 1999 their team was shattered by the news that their number 10 Tony Ryan (Ryaner) had lost his life to suicide. The local community was massively impacted by the loss and overwhelmed by a numbness and sense of disbelief.

Tony was a huge football fan and his friends and family felt it would be a fitting tribute to his memory to play a once in a lifetime game against some of Liverpool’s greatest players. Tony’s friends organised the event so that they can make a contribution to the work that SOS undertakes, and also in the hope that as a result they can make a difference to the life of someone who is need of help and support.

Suicide or Survive would like to thank everyone who took part in this amazing event – we are so grateful for your support.
