The SOS Shankill 120 has grown into an incredible annual event that many avid cyclists and novices alike mark in their calendar each year. The cycle raises awareness for mental health & suicide prevention as well and vital funds to allows us continue to provide our innovative, life-changing programmes throughout the country.
It is always a fabulous day filled with joy, laughter, fun, massive amounts of community spirit and comradery and of course, cycling!
This amazing event has grown from strength to strength, year on year, but has a unique history. It was borne out of the incredibly generous hearts and caring spirts of four tremendous people, Damien Lawless, Jay Matthews, Joe King & Aisling Growney. They had been touched by suicide and together came to Suicide or Survive with a wonderful vision to hold a fundraiser the likes we had never seen before, the team of friends ran from Galway Bay to Bray, Co. Wicklow to raise funds for SOS. They did this again for a couple of years, and then with discussions with us expanded the idea which turned into a cycle event and is now our incredible SOS Shankill 120 annual cycle.
This event is now sponsored by our wonderful friends & neighbours Brady’s of Shankill, and has the opportunity of other sponsors coming on board by sponsoring space on our cycling jerseys. This year we had a record number of 210 cyclists, and we know it will only keep growing and growing because of the loving spirit of all involved. We hope to see you their next year.
Together we are Stronger – Together we can do incredible things!
